What Is Menopause?

Menopause marks the natural end of menstruation and the reproductive cycle. It’s officially diagnosed after 12 consecutive months without a period, typically occurring between the ages of 45 and 55. But menopause isn’t just a moment in time—it’s a multi-phase journey:

Perimenopause

Hormonal shifts begin, often bringing symptoms like irregular periods, mood changes, night sweats, and sleep disruptions.

Menopause

The final menstrual period, confirmed after one year without a cycle.

Postmenopause

The decades that follow, offering new possibilities for growth, clarity, and renewal.

By 2050, the number of postmenopausal women will either equal or surpass women in their reproductive years.

About Me

Hi, I am Tammie a holistic coach with a Master’s in Holistic Health Education and certifications in health coaching and yoga. I guide women through the spiritual, emotional, and physical terrain of menopause.

My journey: I thought menopause would last six weeks. A few hot flashes, some mood swings, and I’d move on. But when it didn’t pass, I knew something deeper was at play. After leaving Maui, moving to San Francisco at 52 and entering graduate school, I found myself in the midst of hormonal chaos, grief, and transformation. Despite trying everything—juicing, running, more yoga, even pharmaceuticals—I still felt disconnected and spiritually flat.

That’s when I got curious.

Through research, self-inquiry, and soul-nourishing travels to India, Nepal, Thailand, Bali, Peru, and Vietnam, I discovered menopause isn’t something to fix—it’s an initiation. A sacred pause. A cultural redefinition.

If you’re navigating symptoms like weight gain, sleep disruptions, irritability, or unexpected waves of emotion, you’re not alone. Most women come to me when they feel disconnected from themselves and ready to go deeper.
